I hope this serves as gentle encouragement for some simple service improvement. Newberry is a local institution - everyone in the neighborhood comes here for inspections and the occasional car repair. I have too for the last decade. Because I’ve been coming for a long time, I know their peculiarities, but there’s still room for improvement. Today I stopped by early, just after opening time at 7am to get my car inspected. I walked in and Yvette was sitting behind the counter. She ignored me until I greeted her with a “good morning”. She replied with the same and then turned her back and continued to do her work. I waited for four minutes in silence and then asked if there was anyone available for inspections. She turned to me and said sternly “There’s only one person back there - you have to be patient.” Then turned her back to me and shook her head numerous times. I asked her politely “Ma’am, are you shaking your head at me?”, to which she replied “Don’t make assumptions”. I waited another 7 minutes before a technician came out and promptly did my inspection. Now here’s the thing - I know from past experience that the store staff is separate from the repair/inspection staff. So they don’t cross over. But to your average customer, would that be obvious? Would a “Someone will be out to help you shortly” be too much to ask? I understand that the inspection services barely make any money for the service stations, so it’s more of a service to the community than it is a real profit center. I appreciate that Newberry continues to offer that to the community. I will continue to patronize both the repair shop and the gas station. But do consider just a modicum of civility. It goes a long way for proprietor and customer. Thanks for reading. EDIT: I appreciate the clarifying response. Best wishes for success in challenging circumstances.

Newberry Automotive is always my first call anytime I have car trouble. Everything from dead battery, flat tire, ran out of gas, etc. They are locally owned and always willing to dispatch help. Today I had a gashed tire on a Yukon xl. I called and they sent Paul over 10 minutes later. He showed up and changed the tire - even had to run back to the shop for a bigger stronger jack when the one GMC provided wasn’t doing the trick. He was professional, knowledgeable, and had a great attitude even when the job got frustrating. Highly recommend saving their number in your phone and giving them a call anytime you have car trouble in Westlake.

If you want to be treated like garbage then this is the place for you. I think I'd get better service by working with the mafia. My husband broke down on the side of the highway and got his car towed here. He was supposed to have his car inspected to hopefully have warranty cover whatever was wrong with it. After a week of BS he now is towing his car to ANOTHER shop because this place was too incompetent to do anything. This place put him on hold over the phone (or so they thought) and he overheard the manager PAUL literally tell the front desk associate to keep telling my husband he was too busy to talk to him. They also tried charging him for a dead battery when that wasn't even something that was actually wrong with the car. My husband ended up having to pay $160 just to have his keys returned to him even though they did absolutely no work or inspection. So I recommend this place if you want to be robbed of your money and be treated with the most disrespect I have ever seen!

The guys that did the work were great however everyone else in the process seemed put out that I didn’t know the drill here. New berry is in with Chevron. In fact both people that recommended this spot to do my inspection called it Chevron. The chevron gal that answered my original call was rude and told me that automotive that not them and hung up. When I arrived and found myself “at the front” to show proof of insurance at the convenience store cashier (same gal as on the phone) but was ignored, I went down to the bays to ask if there was another “front”. The gal there was short and said to go wait there and she’d be up soon. Blah blah. Once I got back into interaction with the guys that do the actual work, service improved dramatically. The car was done in 10 minutes as promised.
